“There’s something going on here. When an album starts off with “Unlearn,” a frantic, frenzied burst of a song that’s only one repeated line before immolating itself, just like Wire at their best, followed by “Cult Of Youth,” boasting an epic college rock hook caked in infinite reverb and smeared tones, the mind starts picking up sonic tracks and traces. Lexington, Kentucky’s Elsinores remind me of many things, but lack the patchwork quilt musical assemblage quality that so many younger band fall prey to. Nothing is given away.

“Dreams Of Youth” is a dark album, let’s be clear. Goth goes to the garage maybe? I don’t want to sound too glib, because this is a damn fine album. Listen for whispers of Pixies, the Wipers, Samhain, Lost Sounds, Echo And The Bunnymen, and the Damned. I’m particularly taken by the inventive combinations deep within Elsinores’ musical DNA. A full-throated vocal delivery that calls to mind Dave Vanian, a sonic palette of guitar sounds blurred and obscured by effects, and bass/drums that are whip smart and a solid, rumbling foundation.
“Dreams Of Youth” is about hitting back against despair, even though in the back of your mind you know that it’s going to end in tears.”
- Matthew Moyer / Popnihil

“Not encased in feedback but instead a warm reverb, Lexington’s The Elsinores return with Dreams of Youth, a follow-up to the excellent split-cassette EP with J Marinelli in 2012. This is a pounding outpouring that relies on punk and lo-fi garage as its root, but eschews both the straight angers of hardcore and the burnt ghosts of pop-punk, instead bounding forward with a cocoon of tight bass, drums and guitar into furthered realms of bobbing rock-n-roll. These are advanced studies in the curriculum lauded forth by the likes of The Wipers. A wistfulness permeates these tunes often; a furrowed brow of the voice that hearkens to a lost-in-thought nearly early-80s delivery, gazing not at shoes but out a dirty wintry window towards something else. Thoughts on the mind. Joy Division cassettes have fallen under the table. Came a sound, a sound like the roll of fetching thick riffs regulated unto the company of addictive punk-hazes, and that sound was swathed in concise poetics about youth, dreams, night, and time. Hail The Elsinores for tightening the Rod so early in the year.”
- American Gloam

“It is difficult not to gush about this record... Pure white light/heat energy coursing through impassioned songs set to yearning futures and burned up memory. Plenty of references (Wipers, Nocturnal Projections, Iceage, Dinosaur Jr., Husker Du, the great northwestern 80s/90s bands, the great cassette bands of English 80s, etc.) but mostly pure, place-less, spirit driven music of guitar, drums, and vocals.”
- Ben Allen / Radio Free Lexington

KS09 : ANCIENT SKY - TIME IS AN OCEAN B/W THE WIND 7" [AVAILABLE NOW!]

This single offers two new tracks that find Ancient Sky's strain of searing psychedelia burning brighter than ever. In stark contrast to so many 60's rehash groups just going through the motions these days, Ancient Sky create compelling, mercurial tunes forged from the most primal elements of rock and roll. Wailing guitars surge and crash across this record, deconstructing melodies atop a deftly chaotic rhythm section that propels the entire turbulent assemblage forward, towards some blazing, unknown end.

Previously only available on their most recent European tour, this record is comprised of two tracks recorded at the same session as the band's "T.R.I.P.S." LP, and is their last release with the lineup consisting of Brian Markham, Pat Broderick, Mike Kutchman and Christian DeRoeck. First pressing of 500 copies (400 black, 100 blue.)

Tracklist:
1. Time is an Ocean
2. The Wind

This record is available for mailorder in the United States for $7.50 postage paid, payable via cash, check or money order, or paypal to karmicswamp@gmail.com. First 100 orders will receive translucent blue vinyl. Email all questions - wholesale, trades, international orders, or otherwise - to this address. KS15 : TWERPS - I'M STUPID 7" E.P.
[AVAILABLE NOW!]

The east coast's most recent usurpers of unruly hardcore have emerged from the wooded depths of Amherst, Massachusetts. Combining the fundamentals of straight forward USHC with the snotty melody of early 80's west coast punk rock, TWERPS offer you four tracks of rough and rowdy mid-paced hardcore with just enough gruff harmony to keep things interesting. More music for glue sniffers and general misfit fuckups.

Tracklist:
1. PRGNT
2. Upside Down
3. Dull Life
4. Two Sisters

First press of 500 copies, available for mailorder in the United States for $7.00 postage paid, payable via cash, check or money order, or paypal to karmicswamp@gmail.com. UPDATES FROM THE COSMIC ROMP

So it's been awhile! There has been a lot going on in the realm outside of the Internet,
a space I'm coming to appreciate more and more... The Globsters tour was phenomenal; Adam and I shared in the rock and roll misery with punks all across the eastern U.S., got to see old friends and slang some records - what more could you ask for?

The Globsters - Rock and Roll Misery EP is out now, along with The Elsinores -
You're the One EP
, two very different and very tasty rock and roll records I can't recommend enough! You can also find all manner of new and freshly restocked
savory jams in new DISTRO update - ragers like the VIDEO and B-LINES LPs and new stuff I picked up out on the road, including the SHOPPERS/PANZRAM split 7", WHITE GUILT 7", MERCILESS GAME 8", SEA OF SHIT 7", CROSS 2XCS and tons more! So check em out!

So much stuff in the works - I'm really excited about this summer! In the near future, expect the new ANCIENT SKY 7", CROSS / ARCANE RIFLES split 7", and a repress of BELOW - St. Anthony's Fire on cassette (just in time for their April weekend with TOMBSTALKER!) I'll have to leave it there for now, but expect more big news soon!

If you're in Kentucky, come out to a SHOW and scope the distro out; get in on some goodies that might not make it to the internet! Wherever you're at, support local music, support DIY! And check out the Globsters interview in the March 2012 issue of
Maximum Rock N Roll (#346)
! I might be biased because I was involved, but I have to
say, its essential KY punk reading!!! We'll be seein you!

KS14 : THE ELSINORES - YOU'RE THE ONE 7" E.P.
[AVAILABLE NOW!]

Hailing from the Appalachian-Midwest border town of Lexington, Kentucky,
THE ELSINORES are a new group that have been spreading their homemade variety of power pop/garage punk jams across the South for the past couple of years, releasing and touring on a couple of killer demo tapes that were really a breath of fresh air from the harsh nihilism that has pervaded punk's recent output.

You're the One is the band's first appearance on record, and they really stand out on these new recordings, exploring the concurrence between early punk and rock and roll with a relentless sense of melody in what amount to some really good songs! If the abrasive rock and roll of the Voidoids mixed with the tenacity of Pink Flag-era Wire and the glow of the Beach Boys sounds like your sort of savory jam, then get yourself
a spoonful of the Elsinores!

Tracklist:
1. You're the One
2. Losing
3. Thinking of You
4. Shadowplay

This record is limited to 300 copies on black vinyl and features artwork from the band, including hand-stamped labels and a lyrics sheet. Available for $7.00 postage paid in the United States, payable via well-concealed cash, money order, or paypal to karmicswamp@gmail.com. Email all questions, trade, wholesale, international orders, or otherwise to this address. You can also add this record to any order from the DISTRO for only $4.00! This record is being co-released with Space Cadet Records.
